I am 73, married, and have had ED and diabetes for over 10 years, I thought ED was natural for old men, so I didn’t seek any treatment, had no sex for over 10 years, lost interest in having sex.

After retiring a year ago, I maintained good health and regular excises, and somehow a few months ago, I noticed that my interest in having sex is coming back.

So here’s my question: Should I seek treatment/medication or not? I have read online extensively recently and learned that many old men maintain active sex life even after 80. Having sex is good physically and mentally.

But I’m not sure if men with ED at my age seek treatment. Is medical treatment readily? any clinical studies?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, men your age CAN have enjoyable partner sex, even if they haven’t had sex in years. And yes, if you’d like to try erection medication, I’m confident your doctor will prescribe it. Just don’t expect any miracles from ED drugs.

ED medication may help you, but it doesn’t work as well as the drug companies claim, especially for men with long histories of diabetes. Still, Viagra et al. are reasonably safe (as long as you don’t take nitrate drugs such as nitroglycerin for angina). If you’d like to try one or more ED drugs, why not?

Meanwhile, if your libido is returning and your wife is on board, there are wonderfully satisfying ways to make love even if you can’t raise an erection.

I urge you to read a number of article available on my site: Erection Myths and the Truth About Erections, ED Causes, ED Treatments, , and .

And since you’re a decade out of practice in lovemaking, I also suggest that you read: Great Sex Without Intercourse, and Caressing Women: Advanced Erotic Tips for Men. You can purchase these articles separately, or you can buy my low-cost e-book, which contains all 115 articles archived on this site.

Bottom line: You’re never too old to enjoy great sex, and if you and your wife want to return to lovemaking, a marvelous new world of mutual pleasure awaits!
