Young couple in bed

I know there are lubricants that are specifically edible and flavored, but what about others like silicone lubes? Are they dangerous if ingested during oral sex?

I wouldn’t guzzle lubricants like Coke, but as far as I know, it’s safe to ingest small amounts of all sexual lubes, including silicone-based products. The vast majority of lubes sold in the U.S. are water-based products (Astroglide, KY, etc.), whose main ingredient is water. Silicone lubes are less popular because they cost more. Their main ingredient is dimethicone. A quick check of Internet sources says it’s “nontoxic.” Silicone lubes have been around a good 25 years. I’m assuming that if there were any real problems, they would have turned up long ago and the FDA would have intervened. I know of no such action, so I’m willing to bet that silicone lubes are safe to ingest in small amounts, just like all of the water-based lubes. But if you feel nervous about lube safety, you can always use olive oil, which is totally safe to ingest. And for more on lubricants, read my article on the subject, The Slippery Secret of Great Sex.
