Senior man thinking

I am a male who has been using anal sex toys for forty years. My favorite has been an object of 1.75 inches diameter. Recently, I acquired a similar object of 2.067 inches diameter (I measured the girth and converted.) Is this too large? (I have seen objects of twice that thickness, but don’t want to go there.)

The anal sphincter is surrounded by muscles that, when contracted, keep it closed, but when relaxed, allow it to open. The anus can open quite a bit, enough to allow insertion of butt plugs with diameters even greater than the new one you just purchased. But that doesn’t mean that YOUR anus can open comfortably enough to accommodate large plugs. You’ll have to experiment and see.

Since you’re experienced with butt plugs, I don’t have to tell you to lubricate both the toy and your anus before attempting insertion. But what kind of lube are you using? A water-based product (Astroglide, etc) is usually sufficient for anal fingering and small plugs. But for larger plugs, I suggest Crisco.

Beyond lubrication, the issues are comfort, soreness, and soiling. If a larger plug feels uncomfortable, it’s too large for you. If you experience anything beyond mild, transient soreness while wearing the plug or after removal, that plug is too large for you. Ordinarily, the anal sphincter returns to its fully closed position after anal play, but it’s possible that a large plug might leave the opening a little distended. If you notice any soiling of underwear, the plug is probably too big.

For other questions about anal play, I suggest you read the article, Anal Play Without Pain.
