I’m 18 and my boyfriend is 20. We see each other whenever we can and get on really well. For five months now my boyfriend has been coming over to my house when my parents are out so we can have sex. I don’t like to sneak around but it is something normal in these strange times where we have to stay apart.
About two months ago a couple of hours after my boyfriend had left I was curious and decided to try tasting his cum from the condom we had used. I didn’t see any harm in it as I’m sure he doesn’t have any STD’s but I just at that moment wanted to feel close to him. It was okay though seemed to taste slightly different as it was cold to what I remember through oral sex. Since then I’ve been doing it whenever we have sex and wait for him to leave before I swallow it. I’m a bit embarrassed to let him know what I’ve been doing at the moment but quite like it being my dirty little secret.
My question is how much time can I leave it before doing this? I have done it a few minutes after he’s gone in some instances and I have left it up to four hours before trying it a couple of times. Will semen go bad after a while and possibly make me ill? I know it may seem a strange thing to do but I just love being able to be alone and still be able to taste him and feel close.

By volume, semen is around 97% water. The rest is sperm (around 2%), and sugars, vitamins, and minerals to nourish sperm, and some compounds that help sperm swim through the vagina and into the uterus. The water in semen can’t go bad, but over extended time, the other components may. I can’t cite any research that addresses your question, but in my humble opinion, it’s probably safe to swallow it up to a couple hours afterwards. If you’re concerned, refrigerate the semen-filled condom. If using the refrigerator is not possible, then prepare a glass of ice water and store the condom in it until you’re ready.
