We are both widowed. We knew each other’s spouses. We both had been married 48+ yrs. We’ve been together for approx. 2 yrs., and sexually active for the past 10 mos. We are having amazing sex together, several times a night. I am a fit 75 and he, despite a mild lung condition, is otherwise fit at 82. It feels and wonderful! This is the best sex I have ever had in my life. But it does seem unusual. Is it?

First, congratulations on finding a loving partner late in life. More power—and great sex—to you.

You are—and are not—unusual. Here’s how you’re not: Many couples your age continue to make love. An Indiana University study shows that during the past year, 40 percent of men and 22 percent of women over age 70 report partner sex during the previous year. (The main reason for the difference is that more women are widows.) Here’s how you’re unusual: your frequency and enthusiasm.

Chances are that during the next year or so you may back off on frequency. The hot-and-heavy period rarely lasts longer than 2 years. But enjoy yourselves!

I wish you continued great sex.
