As I get older, it takes longer to get hard again after orgasm/ejaculation. Are there any studies about shortening the refractory period? Are there any effective treatments such as exercises, herbs, medications, etc.?

I’m well over 60, so I know what you’re talking about. Refractory period lengthens with age so what’s happening to you is normal. I know of no studies that address shortening it, but without offering any guarantees, I can suggest a few approaches that might help.

Make love the first time without any erection medication, then take Viagra for #2. Or try Cialis before #1 and see if its longer action helps with #2.

Make love early in the day. Older men usually have more erotic energy in the morning, and if that’s the case with you, then you might retain some of that energy for your second go-round.

Drink a cup of strong coffee. Caffeine is a powerful central nervous system stimulant. It might also help the nerves involve din erection.

Think about an erotic fantasy that really turns you on. If possible, for #2, try to live it out, or come close to it. The excitement of fulfilling (or approaching) your fantasy might help.

And please let me know if any of these suggestions—or any others—help.
