Young man watching porn in bed on laptop

I am 68 and enjoy “mature” free porn. But I’m afraid that viewing porn is wrong and really legal. I don’t want to break any laws, but enjoy the photos and video of women my age or older. I don’t buy subscriptions or download anything. Is my fear real? Do I need to stop viewing porn?

If you reside in the U.S., Canada, Western Europe, or much of the rest of the world, it’s legal to view pornography. Check the laws where you live. But even in countries where it’s illegal, for example, Saudi Arabia, much of the population views it. It’s almost impossible to stop people from searching the Internet, and porn ranks among the world’s top search destinations.

I can’t tell you want to believe or how to feel. If you believe that viewing porn is wrong, that’s what you believe, and in light of your belief, you need to decide how to act.

But since you asked me, I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with viewing porn—as long as you understand that it’s fantasy, and that real satisfying lovemaking is much different, much less genital-focused than porn, much more about kissing, hugging, and leisurely, playful mutual whole-body massage. Porn also massively short-changes women on cunnilingus.

Porn is a cartoon version of sex. Now, sometimes cartoons are fun to watch, and if you have the itch, there’s no reason not to indulge in some porn.

At least that’s my opinion. And given the fact that people around the world view more than 100 BILLION Internet porn pages a year, I think my opinion is widely shared.

But like I said, how you act is up to you and your belief system. Whether or not you continue to view porn, I hope you reach a place of personal peace concerning this issue.
