I’ve heard it all – from oysters to green M&Ms – that aphrodisiacs are for real. I’m skeptical because no food has ever turned me on in a sexual way. First of all, what are aphrodisiacs? Secondly, are they a myth? And if they are a myth, why are they hyped in media?

No aphrodisiac works like the elixir in that old rock song “Love Potion Number Nine,” whose narrator takes a swig and “starts kissing everything in sight.” On the other hand, there’s more than a germ of truth to some traditional aphrodisiacs.
