I am a 38 year old unmarried man who is largely a vegetarian with clean habits (no smoke, no drinks). I often eat eggs except in the summer as my body cannot adjust to the heat it generates and I get mouth ulcers. I notice a sudden decrease in libido and a flaccid penis. It’s been about a month now and I don’t get any erections or morning wood. I started jogging in the last fortnight now after years but I have been walking long distances when I would get a chance and never felt tired even after walking for 5-6 kms and stable speed. I am 6ft tall and I weigh about 82 kgs. I had a paunch and that’s gone now after I started regulating my eating habits for the last 5 months (I have dinner before 8:30 and milk before sleeping). However, I generally don’t have breakfast. I am focused on nutrition when I eat, more than the quantity. I have Amway Nutrilite Daily tab, Megamen energy and metabolism tabs and GNC amplified pro-performance protein (about thrice a week) and I generally have a vitamin malt drink in the morning. I avoid fried or oily products and also do not consume chicken/meat. I have been a late sleeper for years (sleeping at 4 am often) which I have changed now to 1:30. I have not had sex with a woman yet but I have been a heavy masturbator for 20 years. I see a drastic fall in my libido and erections over the last 3 years but its the first time I see such a long gap. My appetite has gone down and I am unable to eat the quantity of food I used to about two months back. I wish to get back to normalcy as I was before (getting erections twice a day). Please assist.

It’s unusual for a 38-year-old, near-vegetarian man to experience sudden loss of erection and libido. This may indicate a medical problem. My advice: Consult a doctor promptly. Many medical conditions can cause loss of sexual interest and function. Get a check-up asap.

You also say you “have not had sex with a woman yet.” If you mean that you haven’t had sex with a woman since you adopted a healthy lifestyle, then I hope a doctor visit can resolve your problem. But if you mean that at age 38, you have never had sex with a woman, then I suggest you consult a sex therapist to discuss the issues many older virgins face. For more about sex therapy, see my article on it. To find a sex therapist near you, visit the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, the Society for Sex Therapy and Research, or the American Board of Sexology.
