Hi Michael! I red your article about physiology behind vagina feeling too loose or too tight. My question is if using tampons influences the way vagina is. I feel that not using tampons makes it tighter, or is it just a feeling? As well as not having sex for a while. Is that true or just a feeling?

  • Michael Castleman says:

Tampons can cause vaginal irritation and rarely toxic shock syndrome, and their absorption of menstrual flow and other vaginal secretions may be felt as you say. But It’s hard to see how tampons would have any permanent or even long-term effect on the vaginal musculature. Still, I’m not denying your experience or feelings. If not using tampons makes you feel tighter, take that into account in your tampon decision-making.
